Festival International d'Art Lyrique d'Aix-en-Provence - 2023 Edition

Created in 1948, the Aix-en-Provence Festival has rapidly established itself as one of the major events of the opera season. It stands out not only for its renown, but also for its spirit of innovation and renewal. Aware of the power of festivals to surprise audiences and explore new artistic horizons, the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence is dedicated to creating high-quality opera performances and organising exceptional concerts.

Thanks to its reputation, it collaborates with renowned directors, visionary orchestras, leading conductors, talented casts and the greatest contemporary composers. The Festival establishes co-productions with the world's most prestigious institutions, enabling its shows to travel throughout the seasons.

Prior to the International Festival, which takes place in July, a prelude called Aix en juin has been offered to local audiences since 2020. This prelude is entirely free of charge and helps to anchor the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence in its territory, a characteristic that is dear to its heart. What's more, the Festival Academy enjoys a worldwide reputation, as do the Mediterranean projects supported by its Medinea network and its Mediterranean Youth Orchestra. The awareness-raising and creative initiatives run by the Festival's educational and socio-artistic services, known as Passerelles, welcome over 5,000 participants every year, underlining their essential impact.

Since 2010, the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence has been committed to an active sustainable development policy aimed at reducing its environmental footprint. Since 2014, it has stood out in particular for its innovative approach to eco-design of sets, making it a trailblazing model followed by many regional, national and international cultural institutions.

In June 2020, the Festival enshrined Corporate Social Responsibility in its bylaws, demonstrating its commitment to gender equality, the promotion of diversity and environmental protection, missions that are an integral part of its identity.
